In the early days ...

As Japan began its long process of reconstructing in the post war era, Masahisa Goi was meeting with small groups of people in the Tokyo area. Most people were essentially interested in receiving guidance for their personal lives and sharing with Goi Sensei their various problems. Mothers, wives and grandmothers whose lives had been disrupted by the war came to speak with him about those they lost, their grief and their deep lingering wounds.
The all encompassing love and warmth that Goi Sensei shared with everyone, along with his wise inspired guidance and good humor were quick to attract people. More and more people came to see him and listen to his lectures.
Masahisa Goi would not speak about complicated philosophies or difficult spiritual disciplines, but would rather listen offering spiritual support and encouragement.
As a spiritual practice, he essentially advised people to continue praying for the peace of the world, no matter what the situation they may be in. This informal gathering of people was called “the prayer for world peace group.”

As the group started to grow larger, Masahisa Goi was advised to register it with the Japanese government as a new spiritual group, and for purely administrative reasons he was asked to write a tenet for it.
Within minutes, Goi Sensei wrote an inspired text containing the basics of its teachings which can be summed up as “The way I feel about a human being and a human being’s true way of living”.
Thus Byakko Shinko Kai was born.

It took yet a few years for Byakko to start the construction of its first headquarters in Ichikawa city, located in the suburbs of Tokyo. Built on a hill, it was named Hijirigaoka, meaning Holly Hill in English. Lovely Japanese style gardens and ponds as well as beautiful cherry trees graced the grounds. Although it was small it was incredibly peaceful and filled with the energy of love and light.
Thus, Byakko Shinko Kai has grown from a little bamboo house perched on a hill in the neighborhood of Tokyo, into a large international movement for world peace and consciousness awareness.
Byakko Shinko Kai remains however a grassroots movement for world peace through prayer, and is supported by its members and friends.
The former headquarters of Byakko, Hijirigaoka, was moved in 1998 to the Fuji Sanctuary and all its structures were removed.
